What is a Maat?

Maat or Maʽat represented the ancient Egyptian principles of truth, balance, order, harmony, law, morality, and justice. Maat was also the goddess embodying these principles, overseeing the stars, seasons, and the actions of both mortals and deities who established order from chaos during creation. Her ideological counterpart was Isfet (Egyptian jzft), symbolizing injustice, chaos, violence, or evil.
